Before we begin, lets take some time to learn about San Buenaventura Mission history. The Mission was founded on March 31, 1782, which happened to fall on Easter Sunday. It was suppose to be the 3rd mission, however it’s founding was delayed for thirteen years. Finally the mission was founded and it became the 9th mission to be established. The founder was Father Fray Junipero Serra. The San Buenaventura Mission is also knows as Mission by the Sea. In 1880 two pinecone trees were planted in front of the Mission. Jackie loves seeing these trees every time to she visits. The pinecone trees were designated California Millennium landmark by the American the Beautiful Fund in 2000.

One of the reasons we love this Mission so much is because the garden is very relaxing and peaceful. There is a water fountain in the middle of the garden that attracts beautiful birds. There are plenty of flowers, plants and trees to enjoy and just look at. You can either walk around or just sit on one of their benches. This is a great place to mediate or pray if your feeling stressed.

Inside the mission it looks very antique but well taken care off. There are plenty of wooden benches to sit on and many times you will find people praying throughout the day. Their alter is beautiful decorated but simple. The mission is small but it’s a great place to just sit down and enjoy the architecture.

The mission is not big, and can be seen within an hour or hour and a half at the most. However, we believe this is such a beautiful Mission located in Ventura, CA. This is such a great little escape if you are looking for a place to just relax. We hope you enjoy this Mission as much as we did.
